Visit Nuuk
In Nuuk, the forecast can turn in minutes – wind, rain, or snow can quickly make outdoor plans feel impossible. The good news: the capital has brilliant indoor options that let you experience Greenlandic culture, everyday life, and pure comfort while the storm passes.
History & Art
Greenland National Museum & Archives (Colonial Harbour)
This is the go-to rainy-day refuge in Nuuk. Set in the old colonial harbour buildings, the National Museum takes you through 4,500 years of Greenlandic history – from ancient tools and clothing to the world-famous Qilakitsoq mummies.
Practical info (seasonal)
Winter (Sep 15–Apr 15): daily 12:00–16:00
Summer (Apr 15–Sep 15): daily 10:00–17:00
Nuuk Art Museum
A calm, beautiful stop when the sky turns grey. The museum showcases Greenlandic and Danish art and is a great contrast to the history-heavy National Museum.
Good to know:
Thursdays are free, and the museum often stays open late (commonly until 21:00, depending on the season).
Nuuk Local Museum (Nuutoqaq)
If you want something smaller and more intimate, Nuutoqaq focuses on the story of Nuuk itself – how the city developed, how people lived, and how daily life changed over time.
Good to know:
If you’re into time-capsules – You can book a tour of Niels Lynge’s House, a preserved 1950s home.
Katuaq Cultural Centre – Nuuk’s Indoor Living Room
Katuaq is where Nuuk gathers – cinema, performances, exhibitions, and café life under one roof. The building itself is part of the experience: the iconic wooden “curtain” is inspired by the movement of the Northern Lights and draped fabric.
What to do inside
– Catch a film (perfect storm-night activity)
– Check the foyer exhibitions (often easy to drop into)
– Warm up at Cafétuaq and try their Qimuttoq (“hot sled dog”)
Warm up!
Malik Swimming Pool
When the weather is brutal, Malik can completely reset the day. It’s widely recognised as a social meeting place in Nuuk, and the architecture is award-winning.
Tip:
Malik runs special sessions at times (including “silent swimming” events), so it’s worth checking their latest updates before you go.
Important travel note (please read)
Malik is scheduled to close for renovation from 1 March 2026, and the renovation is expected to take around a year. Always check the current status, opening hours, and sessions before visiting.
For more information, check Malik’s Facebook Page.

Quite Break + Wifi
Nuuk Public Library
Need calm, warmth, and a reliable connection? The public library offers free Wi-Fi throughout the building. (And yes – Wi-Fi isn’t available everywhere in Nuuk, so this is a useful “safe bet” stop.)
Shopping
Nuuk Center
When you just want warmth, essentials, and a bit of browsing, Nuuk Center is the easiest indoor hub – and it’s right next to Katuaq, so it pairs perfectly with café + cinema days.
